The village of Fikardou has been recognized as a cultural and historic monument that includes houses built in the 15-17th centuries that have now been restored and reconstructed. The museum is located 40 kilometers southwest of Nicosia, near Machairas Monastery on the eastern slopes of the Troodos mountain range.
The village is currently home to only about 10 people, who lead a traditional lifestyle. The House of Katsiniorou and the House of Achilleas Dimitri are examples of unique rural architecture that can be found in the moutain region of Cyprus. The two houses have been furnished according to the examples of households from the 16th century. All of the tools and appliances used in everyday rural life are exhibited on the first floor of the house.
The museum features an exhibition of photographs, drawings and texts that describe the process of restoration. The village has a local church of Peter and Paul built in the 18th century as well as a townhall, a post office and a tavern.
Visiting the house-museums is allowed only in guided tours at a specific time. But you can walk around the village at anytime during the year.
