Healthy Eating in Cyprus

Despite Cyprus being renowned for its meat and love for adding fries to every meal, it has been hit by a wave of healthy eating and trendy health-cafes.

In this article, I am going to tell you about my favourite places in Limassol, where you can find your average steamed fish, as well as 100% raw uncooked dishes made from unfathomable ingredients. If you’re in search of a cafe to eat something delicious and fill yourself up without harming your figure, then I advise you to try these options :)

I Superfood Organic BAR

A cosy cafe in the centre of the tourist zone. Despite its relatively small size (only 4 tables) I Superfood Organic BAR has an extensive menu, where green smoothie lovers (amongst others) will definitely find something to their taste, as well as those who have a craving for hot soup (my favourite is pumpkin!). The menu also features zucchini spaghetti, several types of vegetable rolls, a large selection of salads, ranging from a vegan “Caesar” and “Olivier” to unusual combinations of foods, for instance, pear, parmesan and zucchini. I love this place for its cosiness and homely atmosphere, it feels like you’ve called into your friend’s for lunch :)

Address: 79, Georgiou A, Germasogeia, Limassol 4047
Working Hours: from 10:00 to 20:00 (closed on Sundays)

Bakery Kafeneio

One of my favourite spots for delicious, healthy food. I came across this place thanks to the many Instagram pictures of the BudhaBowl, and I desperately wanted to try this beauty. It turned out that aside from this dish, the menu also features a selection of sandwiches (the ones with feta, avocado and pomegranate especially caught my eye), salads, smoothies and various desserts. The coconut pancakes, for example, are an absolute delight!

Working Hours: from 9:00 to 16:00 (closed on Sundays)

Smoothie & Sweetie

If you feel like trying some new flavours and taste combinations, then popping into Karen’s — the owner of Smoothie and Sweetie, a place with a scrumptious name — is a no brainer. My personal favourite is the pesto quiche with tomatoes. But it’s also difficult to keep away from the greensuperfoodbowl (spinach, bananas, coconuts…). Or how do beetroot, cabbage or sweet potato crisps sound to you? Its distinguishing trait is that all the food, even the hummus, bread and cake, is completely raw and uncooked. The food is also rather filling so it would be better to come here with a friend, get a little something to try, and share it between the two of you :)

Address: 28 Agias Fylaxeos, Limassol 3025
Working Hours: Mon-Fri from 11:00 to 15:00, Sat from 10:00-14:00

Green Life

This place has become one of my favourites thanks to its smoothies. The menu has more than 50 types! For those who go for super healthy options, there are green or natural juices. For sportsmen — protein mixes. People with a sweet tooth will enjoy the cocktails with yoghurt or ice cream. Plus you can always ask them to mix something to your taste.

Aside from the smoothies, you can grab a bite of a sandwich or salad, drink some coffee or have an ice cream.

Address: Kaningos 1, Anastasi Shoukri Themis Tower, shop 8, Limassol 3105
Working Hours: Mon-Fri from 8:00 to 20:00, Sat from 08:00 to 18:00

Marios Snacks

A cafe with a huge selection of baked goods and a reasonably good “green corner”, consisting of salads (both with and without meat), whole grain rolls and sandwiches with various fillings.

Early risers will no doubt be fond of this place: Mario’s Snacks opens at 5 am!

Address: 10 AyiasZonis, Limassol 3027
Working Hours: Mon-Fri from 05:00 to 20:00, Sat from 05:00 to 18:00

Sensifood

An ideal option for those not just looking for a healthy snack, but a full-course lunch, be that at home or in the office. Sensifood has several small tables, but overall, this place is orientated towards deliveries or take-away orders and is only open at lunchtime.

Every day it has its own menu with a large selection of garnishes, meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. The portions are rather large so you can feed two with one order, or yourself twice :)
